KATHMANDU, May 18: The government has appointed monk Nigrodha (Siddhartha Maharjan) as the Vice-chairman of the Lumbini Development Trust (LDT).

The post was vacant since five months and the works of the trust have been hit-hard in absence of vice-chairman. The trust is currently working on over half a dozen projects.

Monk Nigrodha, who started his journey of meditation 25 years ago, has been involved in social works through an organization named Sukhi Hitu Nepal.

He holds a Master’s degree in Sociology from Tribhuvan University and is secretary and lecturer at the Theravada Buddhist Academy.

A cabinet meeting appointed him to the post on recommendation of Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Deepak Chandra Amatya.
