“Seek peace within you”

Thupten Faten has been a monk for over 40 years now, at Samdeling Gumba, which is one of the oldest monasteries in Boudha. At eight years old Faten was instructed by his parents to become a monk and so he became one. He has stayed in the monastery all his life. He used to visit his now deceased parents whenever he could. From morning to night the monks pray, meditate, chant mantras like ‘Om Mani Padme Ham,’ study and live in peace. They often engage in conversations exploring the meaning of life. “With communication we build relationships,” said Fanten. He claims that “like the monks we should be stress free and shouldn’t worry about the future, seeking happiness in material things.” He is a believer and preacher of the Buddha's saying that, “Peace comes from within you. Do not seek it outside.”
