The joint team from Kathmandu District Administration Office (DAO), Nepal Bureau of Standard and Meteorology (NBSM) sealed the firm after it was found involved in number of malpractices.[break]
Madhav Timilsina, president of Consumers Rights Forum said the firm was found distributing gas cylinders without conducting due hydraulic tests. “We´ve found that the cylinders hadn´t undergone hydraulic tests since 2009,” said Timilsina.
Though HP Mega Trading Concern is the sole distributor of HP Gas, it was found collecting empty cylinders of other LPG bottlers like Lokpriya Gas, Sugam Gas, Baba Gas, Everest Gas, Trishuli Gas, Bhanu Gas, Nobel Gas, Manoj Gas and Koshi Gas among others. A member of the team said the company had 120 cylinders of other bottlers in stock.
“As the company failed to show dealership of other bottlers, we suspect that it might be involved in changing neck rings and foot rings of cylinders and distributing them in the market,” the member added.
The team has directed Santosh Kumar Pandey, proprietor of the firm, to furnish written clarifications at Kathmandu DAO within 15 days.
Meanwhile, the team also inspected a distributor of Bhanu Gas in Samakushi.
“We found most of the empty cylinders at the store heavier than the standard cylinders. They must be 160 to 170 grams heavier than the standard ones,” the member added.
