According to Som´s brother, Dipak, family members knew of the incident only on October 19, while the municipality assuming that the dead had no relatives cremated the body a few days later.

A month after the incident Som´s family members called a press conference on Saturday and demanded that an investigation be launched into the incident. They have sought compensation and action against the culprit and warned of protests if their demands are not met.

Police, on the other hand, claim that Darai was drunk when villagers handed him over to them. “He was drunk and hung himself by tearing a blanket. We took him to the hospital but could not save his life,” said Inspector Ram Prasad Chaudhari.

Police said they handed over Som´s body to the municipality as they did not know his address and no one came to claim his body.

Magra Darai, the deceased´s father has filed a report at District Police Office, Chitwan demanding that an investigation be launched into the incident.

Som Bahadur worked as a laborer at Ratna Bazaar. He was the sole breadwinner for his old parents, wife, four daughters and a son. “It will be difficult for us to earn a living,” Ganga, the deceased´s wife said at the press conference.
