Mixed result for Sita in taekwondo

KATHMANDU, July 10: Nepali taekwondo player Sita Tamang produced mixed results while other players came up with disappointing results on Friday in the 28th Summer Universiade being held in Gwangju, South Korea.

Sita, who defeated Chimi Wangmo of Bhutan 15-4 in her first match of 49kg, was beaten 14-0 by Chanatip Sonkham of Thailand in the round of 16.Three taekwondo players are vying in the event. Nisha Rawal will face Lulu Niu of China in 73 kg and above on Saturday, while Neema Gurung will play against Erika Pedrozo in 53kg section on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Nepal's number one woman table tennis player Nabita Shrestha, who has already entered the knock-out stage in singles event, went down 3-11, 6-11, 6-11against Olga Bliznet of Republic of Moldova in the last league match. Nabita will play against I-ching Cheng of Chinese Taipei in the knock-out stage on Saturday.

In men's singles, Aashish Awale was beaten in straight set of 3-11, 5-11, 1-11 by Junior Humberto Manhani of Brazil, while Jackie Maharjan went down 3-11, 5-11, 3-11 against Martin Allegro of Belgium and Deep Saun faced 11-8, 13-11, 4-11, 7-11, 13-15 defeat at the hands of Phi Nguyen of Australia. Likewise, Binesh Khaniya was beaten 9-11, 6-11, 7-11 by Marcelo Fernandez of Chile in the same event.

Similarly, the mixed doubles event of badminton saw the pair of Deepak Bohara and Nangsal Devi Tamang beaten 8-21, 2-22 by the pair of Bodin Isara and Rawinda Prajongjai of Thailand. Nangsal faced 13-21, 10-21 defeat by Angela Zhang of USA in women's singles. Likewise, Deepak went down 11-21, 11-21 against Igor Bjelan of Serbia in men's singles.
