Mixed performance in GM chess

KATHMANDU, June 11: Nepali players came up with mixed performance in the sixth round of the ongoing First International Open Grand Master Chess Tournament being held in Orissa, India.



Sujendra Prasad Shrestha rated 2064 defeated 2252 rated Mohammad Ali of Bangladesh to come atop the table among Nepali players with four points.



Likewise, Rajendra Shrestha, Gyanendra Shrestha, Bhagwati Prasad Sharma, Prakash Nepal, Suman Suwal, Niranajan Prajapati, Indra Kumar Basnet and Rajendra Rai also emerged victorious in the sixth round.



Rajendra Shrestha rated 2033 downed Rabindra Kumar Mahata of India rate 1752. Gyanendra beat his teammate Rajesh Kakshapati rated 1994 to add 2.5 points in his accounts. Gyanendra who got partial rating following his participation in the Mumbai Mayor´s Cup is sure to get the ratings following this win. Bhagwati downed Bikram Priya of Nepal rated 1701.



However, FIDE Master Manish Hamal, Nepal champion Badri Lal Nepali, Maniraj Dangi, Balaram Napit, Nikesh Duwal, Umesh KC and Prem Krishna Maharjan suffered defeat in the sixth round.



Badri lost to IM Kambal Bikramaditya of India and Manish lost to IM Shekhar Shahu of India.



Prajwalraj Rajopadhya shared point with Utkarsha Khanoja of India as he played a draw with him. The tournament will be held until tenth round.
