Chess tournament for education

On the occasion of International Chess Day, Palpasa Coffee organized a fund raising event ‘Chess for Dolpo’ in association with the Snow Yak Foundation on Thursday at its premises in Thamel.

On the occasion of International Chess Day, Palpasa Coffee organized a fund raising event ‘Chess for Dolpo’ in association with the Snow Yak Foundation on Thursday at its premises in Thamel.  


The chess competition was organized to raise fund for the Snow Yak Foundation. The foundation was established 14 years ago, and has been teaching students of Upper Dolpo since its inception.

According to the press statement, volunteers from Snow Yak teach in over 13 schools. As much as Rs 1,500 was raised in the event and the amount was provided to the foundation at the closing ceremony.


In the competition, Nischal Narsingh Rana won the first prize, while Samman Malla stood second. Moreover, Palpasa Coffee also handed Rs 1,250 (from 250 cups of coffee sold last month) as promised to the foundation to support kids’ education in Upper Dolpo.


Former National Chess Champion of Nepal, Surbir Lama, had been invited as the chief guest and moderator at the event.
