DHADING, Aug 10: Two workers who had gone missing after getting trapped into a deep pit created by an excavator during illegal quarrying of river products have been found dead.
The victims have been identified as Bhim Bahadur Syangtan, 18, and Suman Syangtan, 23, of Gajuri rural municipality-6. They were hired for the extraction and had gone missing as they climbed down the deep hollow created on the bank of Daringal stream.
The use of huge machinery has been banned for the extraction of river products. Following the incident, enraged locals burnt down three excavators.
They have demanded proper compensation to the victims, a ban on the use of machinery in the river and action against those responsible for the tragedy. Those hired for the quarrying had gone for harvesting sand without safety measures, putting the lives at risk which ended in tragic deaths.
