KATHMANDU, Aug 12: Journalist Balaram Baniya who had gone missing since Monday afternoon has been found dead in Hetauda.
SSP Deepak Thapa at the Metropolitan Crime Division confirmed that his dead body was found near the Mando Hydropower Project site in Hetauda. "His body has been kept at the Hetauda Hospital for autopsy," Thapa said.
Baniya was last seen at Balkhu Chowk in Kathmandu at 3:45PM on Monday, according to police. Locals and police tried to rescue Baniya after seeing jumping him into the swollen Balku River. However, they failed. Police recovered a pair of his shoes from the incident site.

According to Ekantipur Online, Baniya had contacted to his office at around 1 PM. Since then, he remained out of contact.
Journalist Baniya was affiliated to the Kantipur Publications for a long time. Baniya extensively covered political affairs, bureaucracy and governance in his professional career for about two decades.
Baniya also worked at Nagarik daily briefly. Police had intensified a search operation after his daughter lodged complaint at the Metro Police.
He is survived by two daughters, a son and wife.
