KATHMANDU, Oct 8: After an exciting and fruitful competition at the Miss World 2013 pageant held in Indonesia, Miss Nepal Ishani Shrestha arrived home in Nepal on Tuesday (yesterday). In the press conference organized to welcome her, Ishani was looking tired yet congenial as she spoke about her experiences in Indonesia and her plans for the future.

“The support and love that everyone had for me were unexpected, but deeply appreciated. I’m very happy that the six months of hard work paid off and I was successful. Hidden Treasure has been very supportive. During my time there, I tried my best to show what Nepal is and I’ve also talked about the culture and tradition of our country,” she said.[break]

At the 63rd Miss World event, Ishani was awarded the prestigious ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ title for her five-minute-long video demonstrating ‘Project Smile,’ a free dental camp she conducted in Jumla. She was amongst the Top 10 in the pageant and also bagged 3rd place in the ‘Multimedia’ round. Her achievements do not end there as people still remember Ishani dancing to the popular ‘Maiti Ghar’ song with the rest of the contestants performing along with her. Hers was one of the 11 other dances selected to be presented at the ‘Dances of the World’ segment at the contest.

Of that moment, she said, “‘Dances of the World’ is like a celebration, and I felt happy that the other girls were also dancing with me to our Nepali song. We had to audition to be selected and I expressively chose ‘Maiti Ghar’ because I believe that it represents Nepal. I also explained what the song was about.”

Acknowledging the love and support from her well wishers, she also extended her appreciation to the local designers, like Subexya Bhadel and Oodni Boutique, who helped her with outfits for the pageant. She added, “Please encourage the future Miss Nepals so that they can also be successful at such events. We need support, not only when we’re returning but also when we leave for pageants.”

Ishani is a dental student and will be continuing her project. “I’m committed to ‘Project Smile’ for life. I will not only be concentrating in Jumla but all over Nepal, and I hope that it can also have an international impact someday. Every single Rupee of the US$10,000 that I won will be utilized for the project.”

For her the journey has been exciting and warm. She remembers other contestants, especially Miss Ecuador and Miss Montenegro, stating their hopes for her win. “Miss Nepal is glamorous but there’s also a certain purpose in the title. There’s sa power that I have to utilize properly,” she exclaimed.

Ishani left for Jakarta on September 2, and before leaving she had expressed her eagerness about the pageant. “I’ve trained hard during the last few months. I’ll try my best to make Nepal proud during the pageant,” she had said.

Congratulating Ishani, Gopal Kakshapati, Chairman of The Hidden Treasure, stated that this was the first time in 13 years that a Miss Nepal has performed this well.
