MIS football team to compete in USA

KATHMANDU, June 28: The youth team of Modern Indian School (MIS) is all set to compete in U-17 boys´ football at the Continental Cup International Youth Sports Festival to be held in the United States of America. The MIS team will leave on Sunday to participate in the event scheduled for July 4-7 in Cleveland, Ohio.



MIS, the first team from Nepal to feature in any tournament in the USA, will compete in the U-17 age category of International Youth Soccer Tournament at the Continental Cup that also includes baseball, volleyball and basketball events. Bina Shrestha is the coach and Bijay Khatri is the manager-cum-assistant coach of the team. Former national team custodian Lok Bahadur Shahi is the team leader. [break]



According to MIS, the team´s participation became possible after they received a proposal from the organizer to compete in the event.

Ashish Gurung is the skipper of the MIS team. Bidhi Khatiwada, Bikesh Pradhan, Nischal KC, Prajwal Shrestha, Shriyash Singh, Roman Singh, Samarpan Acharya, Sohan Manandhar, Sohail Manandhar, Ashiq Raj Acharya, Samipya Subedi, Shuvam Hamal, Akshit Chhetri, Utsav Prakash Sigdel, Manzil Dhoj Khadka, Rojan Shrestha and Divin Rai are other members of the squad.



Team manager Khatri opined that the tournament will prove to be a platform for the players to exhibit their talents and gain experience.

Meanwhile, MIS Principal Raju Peter, among others, bade farewell to the team amidst a function at the school premises on Friday.
