KATHMANDU, Dec 5: The Home Ministry on Saturday said the government would not spare anyone involved in illegal activities like encroaching forest areas as it is the prime responsibility of the government to protect national properties and maintain law and order situation in the country.

Issuing a press statement, the ministry has asked all concerned not to involve directly or indirectly in such activities at the incitement from anyone and also support to government effort to safeguard national interests.

The ministry said the squatters involved in illegally encroaching forest areas had snubbed repeated requests of the local authorities in Kailali to evacuate the Dudejhari and Balchaur forest areas in Baliya VDC.

The ministry said the government was compelled to use force as the demonstrators brutally murdered a police constable on duty and also targeted other police personnel with homemade weapons when the latter tried to take away the body of their colleague from the incident site.

The ministry confirmed that two persons -- one policeman and one protestor -- were killed and nine persons including five police personnel were seriously injured in the incident.
