KATHMANDU, Jan 31:  Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation, Mani Thapa has apologized for saying ‘His Majesty’s Government’ instead of the ‘Government of Nepal’ while addressing a program organized by the Oli-led faction of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) in Surkhet on Saturday.

Taking to Facebook on Sunday, Minister Thapa clarified that he had accidently used the term and immediately corrected the slip. “I’d like to request one and all not to be in a dilemma as I have spent my whole political career for revolution, transformation and progressive change.” He further said that he would never stand by regression. “I’d like to extend my sincere apology for the erroneous term I used.”

During his address at the mass assembly, Minister Thapa, who was inducted as a minister replacing former minister Bina Magar during cabinet reshuffle by Prime KP Shamra Oli following the dissolution of the House of Representatives, said, “I would like to greet you all in this program on behalf of NCP Standing Committee and Shree Paanchko Sarkar (His Majesty’s Government).” He immediately used the term ‘Government of Nepal’ after he was corrected by someone on the stage.

The video went viral on social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and TikTok. The social media users vented their ire against Thapa for using the term which used to be officially written or said in the monarchy era before 2006.

The Declaration of the House of Representatives (HoR), restored after the Popular Movement-2006, had endorsed the new government name as the Government of Nepal (GoN) replacing His Majesty's Government on May 18, 2006.
