Speaking at a press conference organized by the Nepal Press Union in Biratnagar on Tuesday, Minister Sherma stressed on the need for VDCs secretaries to stay in their villages and said that favorable environment would be created for the secretaries to return to their respective villages. “VDC secretaries in a few districts of tarai have not gone back to villages for lack of security,” he reasoned.
He said while a few districts have extra VDC secretaries, a single VDC secretary was compelled to look after more than three VDCs. “We are planning to recruit fresh secretaries to fill the vacancies,” he said.
´Maoists can make shadow cabinet´
Speaking at the program he also poked fun at the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoists) which has been claiming that a new national government would be formed under its leadership in the near future.
“They may find it difficult to topple the government supported by 22 parties. Hence, they can form a shadow cabinet if they so like,” he said reminding that the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist, that was in opposition, had formed a shadow cabinet while the Nepali Congress was in power in 1991.
“It has been months since the Maoists have been making noises about toppling this government and forming another government led by them, but this government is still functioning,” he said. “This government cannot be toppled by people´s revolt. It has the mandate of the majority.”
