KATHMANDU, April 25: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has warned that Meta will be banned in Nepal if it fails to register within the next seven days.
Speaking at a departmental-level interaction program on the Right to Information organized by the National Information Commission in Kathmandu on Friday, Minister Gurung stated that Meta has repeatedly been urged to register in Nepal, but has not complied.

He said that despite issuing multiple notices, the company has ignored them, and the deadline for the third notice has already passed. Therefore, he issued a final warning, saying that if Meta does not register within the next seven days, the government will move to ban its services in Nepal.
Gurung stated that Meta has arrogantly boasted about earning more than Nepal's total Gross Domestic Product (GDP), but emphasized that a nation’s sovereignty cannot be measured in terms of money.
He said that, so far, only TikTok, Viber, and WeTalk have officially registered in Nepal.
