Menon says talks with PM 'constructive', 'positive'

KATHMANDU, June 20:  Indian Foreign Secretary Shiva Shankar Menon called on Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal at the latter´s official residence at Baluwatar in the capital on Saturday.



Talking to reporters after the meeting, Menon said the talks were "constructive" and "positive".



Prime Minister´s Foreign Affairs advisor Rajan Bhattarai said that India agreed to probe into the alleged atrocities and land encroachment by Indian border security force in Dang district and punish the guilty involved. A boundary map has been prepared by experts from the both countries to settle the disputes.



On the occasion, Menon had agreed to help Nepal to import power from India in the times of need by setting up transmission lines.



Earlier, Menon who arrived here on a two-day visit, was shown black flags at the Tribhuwan International Airport main gate. Police arrested 13 persons for showing black flags. They were protesting against the alleged Indian encroachment of Nepali territories in various parts of southern border.



The arrested persons are from Unified Nepal National Front and the newly formed Revolutionary Left Wing (RLW), a breakaway faction of the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist).
