Mechanism to take on corruption in judiciary: CJ

KATHMANDU, Dec 13: Newly appointed Chief Justice Anup Raj Sharma announced on Sunday to establish a high-level mechanism in his bid to curb corruption in the judiciary.



“I cannot pin point that there is corruption but I am going to form a mechanism within a week. Such a high level mechanism to be set up at the Supreme Court will work out strategic plan,” Sharma told journalists after assuming the post of chief justice at the Supreme Court Sunday morning. Earlier, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav administered the oath of office and secrecy to Sharma at Shital Niwas amidst a function.



“Such a mechanism will not suggest ways to deal with corruption but will come out of a strategic plans aimed at doing away with corruption,” Sharma further said.



Saying that he will be in the office for three and half months, he also said that he has three priority areas of work.



First, he would work for the development of information technology for the best benefit of the people seeking justice in today´s age.



Second, he would establish a division at the Supreme Court to monitor implementation of court verdicts. His plan aims at addressing poor translation of court verdicts into practice.



The division, he further said, would constantly monitor implementation of court orders. “The chief judges of appellate courts are required to submit monthly report to the Supreme Court about their monitoring of implementation of court verdicts,” Sharma, the first lawyer to be the chief justice, said.
