MC to vie poll alliance with UML; targets party unification

KATHMANDU, Oct 3: CPN (Maoist Center) has decided to make electoral alliance with main opposition CPN-UML for upcoming elections.


The secretariat meeting of the party held on Monday decided to contest the election making alliance with UML. Earlier, UML had decided to forge poll alliance stressing for a long-term partnership between the two leftist forces.

The party has formed a three-member high-level committee led by party chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal. Leaders Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Ram Bahadur Thapa are members of the committee. The committee will make the final decision for the poll alliance.


According to leader Shrestha, the party will forge poll alliance with UML in first phase. "The party will deal poll alliance with UML in first phase. Our target is party unification", said Shrestha to Republica.


He added that the committee would discuss with the leaders of UML in various round before making any deal. According to a source, both parties have drafted an agreement for the electoral alliance. The top leaders of both parties will finalize the draft and will sign to an agreement very soon, source said.
