KATHMANDU, April 2: Dharan’s Mayor Harka Sampang currently on a visit to the capital Kathmandu has taken an unusual step to voice his demands for political reform.
Over the past few days, Sampang has held meetings with high-ranking officials including Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, Finance Minister Barshaman Pun, Water Supply Minister Rajendra Kumar Rai, Education Minister Sumana Shrestha to discuss the development plans for Dharan.
Mayor Sampang staged a solo demonstration on Tuesday morning calling for political reform and accountability in governance. He was seen carrying placards demanding the implementation of a system where the executive head is directly elected by the people, to be put in place before the year 2084 BS.
