A large number of devotees are thronging at Matatirtha, a shrine in Western belt of Kathmandu Valley, today.
It is believed that people especially who do not have mother alive take holy bath at Matatirtha and offer tarpan as a kind of expressing gratitude for the motherly care.
Security personnel and people associated with different local organizations are busy providing services to the devotees.
According to Narayan Acharya, a local, a cow herder saw his mother´s facial image in the pond water in Matatirtha on Matatirtha Aunsi day in ancient times and threw bread he had taken for tiffin in the pond and that his mother ate it happily.
He then reported it to the villagers and after that devotees have begun to worship mothers on the Ausi day taking holy bath at the place.
