Ghimire reached Timalsena´s residence at Nayabasti, Banepa, and issued threats to him for publishing the news story entitled, “Collecting (donation) in the name of laborers, and misusing it”. [break]
“He produced a copy of the news story and threatened that anything can happen anytime to journalists working with the weekly,” Timalsena said.
“He also asked journalists working with the weekly to strengthen their necks and to make the office more secure,” Timalsena added.
Ghimire also said he had come to inform that his party has decided to take “physical action” against journalists associated with the weekly, saying that the weekly has always been pointing out mistakes of the Maoists, according to Timilsena.
But the party´s district in-charge Dinanath Gautam claimed that his party has not taken such decision and the incident occurred due to Ghimire´s personal objection.
“He must have expressed personal ire. There is no such decision by the party. But yes, we discussed the need to change views on Chesta at it is publishing real as well as baseless stories about the party,” Gautam added.
Meanwhile, the Kavre branch of the Federation of Nepali Journalists and Press Chautari Nepal condemned the threats and demanded action against Ghimire. The two bodies urged relevant agencies to protect press freedom and ensure safety of journalists.
