KATHMANDU, July 27: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Pradip Giri said on Tuesday that the republican system has slid into crisis because of the Maoists.

"The country adopted a republican system because of the Maoist demand. Now it has faced crisis due the Maoists themselves," said Giri while speaking at a function in Biratnagar.

Giri asked the Maoists to concentrate on constitution-drafting and peace processes rather than on forming a government.

The NC leader said that the new government should not be led by the Maoists as they are still biased against democratic system. "It would be unfortunate should the Maoists lead the new government," he said.
