NEPALGUNJ, Feb 15: Nepali Congress Acting President Sushil Koirala said on Saturday that the Maoists were trying to provoke the national army. [break]

"The government is trying to provoke the army through interventions even as the army chief is saying that the army is committed to people and democracy,” Koirala said at a press meet organized by Nepal Press Union, Banke.

“He [Pushpa Kamal Dahal] is claiming to be the Prime Minister of Nepali Army. But he is also giving orders to the former rebel army as its Prime Minister. This is total irresponsibility,” he further said.

Koirala said that the country was heading towards civil war as the Maoists were creating difficulties in various sectors including the army and in the court. He added that Prime Minister Dahal’s unnecessary remarks of becoming a martyr in Baluwatar and seizing the state through rebellion had further complicated the situation.

He alleged that the government was focusing more on inciting violence and terror instead of its main task of drafting a new constitution.

Koirala also said that Nepali Congress would not allow the newly-introduced ordinances to be approved by the parliament.

He criticized the Maoist-led government for failing to meet a nine-point demand set by his party.
