Speaking at a press meet organized by Revolutionary Journalist Forum, Mahara said, “India´s direct intervention in Nepal´s internal affairs has gone up in recent days. An anti-India movement is essential to discourage such intervention."[break]
Urging all to unite against India´s intervention, Mahara said, "Not only the Maoist party but the entire polulace should protest Indian intervention.” He also said India has recently made Nepali media its target.
Mahara also objected to Indian Ambassador to Nepal Rakesh Sood´s recent visit to Solukhumbu. “The ambassador could have provided assistance through the government. But he (Sood) is spreading illusion among the Nepali people as if he himself is assisting the country.”
Stating that India´s intevention in recent days has crossed its limits, he said, "We tried our best to persuade India to keep away from Nepal´s internal affairs, but in vain. It is, therefore, the need of the hour for nationalist forces to unite and launch anti-India movement.”
Mahara, however, refuted allegations of Maoist cadres´ involvement in the attack on Sood in Solukhumbu. “It is true that the Maoist cadres chanted slogans. But no one attacked him as reported in the media,” he claimed.
Mahara also said that it was due to India´s intervention that repeated votings to elect new prime minister has failed to yeild results. He also claimed that the recent tape controversy involving himself and a Chinese national was part of India´s conspiracy to keep the Maoists out of power.
´Caretaker govt can´t bring budget´
Mahara also said his party would not allow the caretaker government led by Madhav Kumar Nepal to present budget for the fiscal year 2010/11. He argued that a caretaker government does not have right to unveil new budget.
Mahara said that the Maoists would protest any move of the current government to unveil budget. The current government cannot do that as the priority now is to form a new government than to bring new budget.
Mahara´s remark comes amidst reports that the government is preparing to unveil new budget if there was no new government in place by October end. “Let us first form the government. Only then can we talk about budget,” he said. “Caretaker government cannot present budget.”
Mahara said that the country was facing various difficulties due to the failure to form new government for long. “It is high time that we worked to form new government at the earliest. Only then there will be talks of budget and policy,” he further said.
He said that the delay in budget had not only affected works of development projects but also affected the day to day activities of ordinary people.
