NEPALGUNJ, June 16: A team comprising representatives of Insec, Nepal Bar Association chapter of Nepalgunj Appellate Court and others has concluded that the Nepali Congress leader from Jumla, Umakanta Hamal, was murdered by local Maoist cadres.

The team, which conducted a study on site, said some 15 Maoist activists were involved in killing Hamal. He was murdered on May 22. Hamal´s wife has filed cases against 28 Maoists.

The team, which interacted with the Maoists, security personnel, political parties and the members of Hamals´ family, also pointed that after the incident a sense of insecurity has prevailed in the village. Hamal himself was displaced from his village following Maoist threat seven years ago.

Two days before the murder, the Maoists had distributed leaflets claiming that they will take action against all the “feudals.”
