Referring to the party´s district convention in Salyan during which the Maoists beat up UML cadres he said, “This type of character has been exhibited by communists no where around the world,” said Khanal. He warned that the Maoists would be relegated to the status of former king Gyanendra if they continue such activities.
The UML chief said that the Maoists were yet to come out of the hangover of war and to become a civilian party. “First become a civilian party, only then civilian supremacy will be established,” Khanal said, adding, “Dahal resigned because he could not lead the country, not because of any pressure.” Khanal also said that the new constitution would not be written until the integration and rehabilitation of the Maoist army is completed.
Stressing on the need for consensus, Khanal said that if the constitution was not promulgated on time, the Constituent Assembly would be dissolved and the political parties would lose their significance.
