CHITWAN, Oct 13: CPN (UML) leader Pradeep Gyawali on Wednesday said formation of a new government  is being delayed owing to non-cooperation from the main opposition, the UCPN (Maoist).

Speaking at a function in Chitwan, Gyawali stressed on the need for a package deal before NC prime ministerial candidate Ram Chandra Paudel withdraws his candidacy.[break]

“Poudel´s withdrawal from the prime ministerial race is not going to resolve the current problem. The decision over whether or not to make Paudel withdraw his candidacy can be taken only after the political parties strike a package deal,” he said.

He claimed that if political parties forge consensus a new government will be formed before October 26 through a “different” procedure.

Gyawali also said it would not be appropriate to amend the calendar of events for constitution drafting yet again.
