PARASI, Dec 4: Cadres of Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) seized over 100 quintals of paddy belonging to two individuals in Kawasoti of Nawalparasi district on Friday. [break]

The All Nepal Farmers´ Organization affiliated to the Maoists seized paddy belonging to Sunil Karmacharya and Bharat Man Karmacharya at Rataul, Kawasoti-9, admitted Bal Krishna Ranabhat, secretariat member of the Maoists´ Awadh State Committee.

The Karmacharya duo, who live in Palpa, were forced to give away the paddy grown on 62 bigahas of land. Of the total paddy produce, the Maoists took away 40 percent, while the remaining 60 percent was distributed to local farmers, according to Ranabhat.

Locals said the Maoists took away paddy on tractors. The Maoists had captured the 62 bigahas of land belonging to the Karmacharyas some six years ago. The party claims that it has allowed locals to use the land instead of returning it to the rightful owners.

The police expressed ignorance about the entire incident. However, political parties in the district have condemned the incident.
