KATHMANDU, Sept 12: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Saturday warned the Maoists not hatch conspiracies to bring about division in the ruling coalition. Addressing a function organized at Modern Kanya Multiple Campus in the capital, the prime minister alleged that the Maoist leadership was engaged in bringing division among coalition partners to topple the government. He claimed that such a conspiracy on the part of the Maoists will not be successful. “The government will last till a fresh election is held after successful completion of the constitution drafting process,” he claimed.

The prime minister alleged that the Maoists were trying to lure coalition partners with what he called ´lollipops´ to bring division in the coalition. He was hinting at the reports that Maoists were ready to offer Nepali Congress leader Sujata Koirala a deputy prime ministerial berth. Nepal has so far denied the same for Koirala.

The prime minister also disclosed that the Maoists had assured him of giving written commitment to extend full support to his government should he allowed discussion on Maoist resolution motion against President Dr Ram Baran Yadav in the parliament. “Such lollipops will not help draft new constitution and move the nation forward,” he added.

Addressing the function, NC General Secretary Bimalendra Nidhi said there was no threat to the government from the NC. He said the NC central committee and the party´s parliamentary meeting have decided to extend full support to the government. “The government will not collapse due to uncivil speech of those on the streets,” he said.

PM fires salvo at Dahal

The prime minister said the Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal´s labeling of other party leaders as jallad (hangmen) was an outcome of his ´uncivil´ behavior.

“An example of barbaric thinking and uncivil behavior can be found in the speech of the leader of the major party in the country,” said the prime minister. He said the Maoist chief spit venom on other political party leaders due to his militaristic thinking and sadistic attitude.

Addressing his party´s rally in Kathmandu on Friday, the Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal had termed the Nepali Congress and UML leaders as ´hangmen.´

The prime minister said it is high time everybody put an effort to make the Maoist leaders cultured and civil, referring a Hindu mythology in which a thug transforms himself into a learned person.

The prime minister, who otherwise would defend his case in polite manner, seemed aggressive in Saturday´s program and called the Maoists bloodthirsty.

The prime minister added that Dahal´s speech needed to be preserved in script for history to know what low level of thinking the Maoist leaders have.
