KANCHANPUR, Mar 8: Maoist cadres pelted stones at Health Minister Umakanta Chaudhary in Mahendranagar on Monday. Chaudhary had reached there for an inspection visit of Mahakali Zonal Hospital.

In the scuffle in the hospital vicinity, four policemen, including SP Pawan Prasad Kharel, were injured. While Kharel sustained injuries to his head, head constable Mohan Singh Chausir and constables Bhim Singh Dhami and Diwan Singh Ngari were also injured.

The police used five rounds of tear gas shells in the hospital area after the SP was hurt in the incident. The patients were badly affected by the tear gas. Attendants were seen looking for water and running around the hospital in chaos. The Maoists waved black flags to the minister and shouted slogans against him.

Maoist cadres hit SP Kharel with stones when he was trying to speak with them at the hospital gate. They fled the scene after police started raining batons on them.

Meanwhile, Chaudhary met hospital staff and other heath workers and held discussions with them. Various health organizations submitted more than a dozen of memorandums to the minister.
