The Standing Committee meeting of the Maoists held at its party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s residence in the capital also announced a series of protest if its demands were not addressed.
The party has been demanding the ‘correction’ of President Dr Ram Baran Yadav´s move to reinstate Army Chief Rookmangud Katawal, who had been dismissed by the Maoist-led government.
A Maoist leader said they had delayed the launch of the protest program after the PM promised them on July 6 to address their demands within a month.
According to the protest program, the largest party in the legislature parliament will hold mass meeting in 10 cities from September 5 to 15. During the time, the Maoists will conduct publicity campaign against the government.
In the second phase, they will boycott all public programs that President Dr Yadav attends. Then after, they will also boycott public programs that the prime minister and ministers attend.
The meeting also appointed Dr Baburam Bhattarai the chairman of the Joint National People’s Movement Committee while Amik Sherchan and Netra Bikram Chand have been appointed vice chairman and general secretary respectively, according to spokesperson Dina Nath Sharma.
The committee will co-ordinate the protest programs. The Maoists will make public the full program on Monday evening.
