“It is anti-people move and political dishonesty on the part of the parliamentary parties to oppose implementation of the cabinet decision. The peace agreements signed in the past have already acknowledged the dual governments during the conflict era,” said Gunaraj Lohani, chief of the Maoist-aligned All Nepal Teachers´ Association. The leaders of the 16 Maoist sister wings will meet the chiefs of the major political parties and Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai on January 30 and submit a memorandum to the prime minister through District Administration Office (DAO) on January 31.
Similarly, the Maoist sister wings plan to hold corner meetings across the country on February 1, and mass meetings in all the district headquarters on February 2.
Lohani said the protest program is meant to assist the prime minister in implementing the government decision, and not to put him in difficulty. The Bhattarai faction has claimed that Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is encouraging the party´s sister wings to launch protests to put the government in difficulty.
“We will come up with more strident programs if the cabinet decision is not implemented,” said Lohani.
The main opposition Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML have been obstructing the parliamentary proceedings, demanding that the government withdraw the decision.
