They also beat up two other members of the owner´s family.
Owner Jagdish Maskey told myrepublica.com over the phone that he, his elder brother and his sister-in-law were beaten up by Maoist unionists led by Panta. Maskey´s brother is in hospital and he himself is at Bauddha Police Station, he added.
Maskey said the assault occurred after he sought clarifications from some of his employees who had not reported for work for months. They had not reported for work for between one and half to seven months. When they did show up they demanded full payment for the period they were absent and Maskey refused. "They then attacked us this afternoon," he said.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Govind Pariyar said Maskey sustained injury to his forehead while his brother was bleeding from the nose. According to him, the assaulters also manhandled Maskey´s sister-in-law.
Police did not arrest anyone involved in the attack after both sides said they were ready for an all-sides meeting Thursday to resolve matters through dialogue, Pariyar said. "We will take action against those involved in the physical attack," he said.
Panta, chairman of All Nepal Hotel and Restaurant Workers´ Union, is also one of the alleged masterminds behind the attack on Himalmedia last year.
