Maoist platoon chief murders former commander

MAHENDRANAGAR, Nov 11: A group led by platoon commander of the seventh division cantonment of Maoist combatants brutally killed Damber Saud, a former UCPN (Maoist) commander in Baitadi district, according to local police.



Baitadi police has confirmed that the platoon commander of Lisnegram Smiriti Brigade Company ´C´ under the seventh division Dal Bahadur Saud -- popularly known as ´Halchal´ was involved in the murder. [break]



The police have also arrested eight persons including Saud on suspicion of their involvement in the murder. Those arrested are Mohan Saud, Lal Bahadur Saud, Dhan Bahadur Saud, Arjun Saud, Ganesh Saud and Mansingh Saud.



Late Saud, 30, of Bhumiraj Village Development Committee was on home leave for Tihar festival when he was murdered.



"Commander Saud has confessed to his involvement in the murder of Damber Saud," said Nripa Shah, police inspector of District Police Office, Baitadi.



"While recording statement before the police, Saud claimed that Ragi Saud, Raivan Saud and Parawa Saud were also involved in the murder," inspector Shah said.



According to him, Raivan, Ragi and Parawa are at large.



Though Damber Saud was murdered last Monday, the Police had reached the incident site only on Wednesday.



Saud´s body was cremated Thursday following a post mortem, said police.
