“We were told that Pasang [Pun] has gone to his home district, and the meeting was postponed,” said Dilip Prajapati, YCL chief at Newa State. [break]
Last Monday, Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, bowing to intense pressure, had assured YCL members of holding talks with them on Thursday in the presence of top office bearers and PLA commanders to finalize relief packages.
Prajapati said he is hopeful that the PLA members who were recruited into YCL back in 2007 will receive relief packages. “The party has already decided to provide them with relief packages and I think the decision will be implemented,” he said.
The disgruntled YCL members have been demanding that the party provide them with relief packages on par with the PLA members who opted voluntary retirement with hefty paychecks or await jobs at the Nepal Army (NA) directorate, and show how the money collected from the PLA personnel (Rs 1,000 each PLA personnel every month) was spent.
Around 3,500 PLA members are still working for the YCL.
