BIRGUNJ, Oct 24: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Sunday said the PLA commanders´ China visit was against the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) as the latter had not informed the Special Committee on Integration and Rehabilitation of the ex-Maoist combatants of such a visit.
Speaking to media persons at Simara airport on his way to Rautahat, the prime minister said the “concerned” body overseeing the Maoist combatants should be held responsible for the visit and that the government will seek a “clarification” on the matter. [break]
“How did the ex-combatants living in UN-monitored camps leave for China without permission from the Special Committee?” Nepal questioned. “It is against the CPA. We will seek clarification with the concerned body regarding the visit.”
UCPN (M) politburo member Janardan Sharma, Deputy PLA Commander Chandra Prakash Khanal, Chief of Maoists´ Integration Bureau Barsha Man Pun, Lawmaker Onsari Gharti, PLA Divisional Commanders Suk Bahadur Roka Magar, Tej Bahadur Oli and Mahendra Shahi had left for China on October 15.
Earlier, Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Rakam Chemjong had said the government will seek clarification from UNMIN as the ex-combatants had not come “practically” under the purview of the government.
