KATHMANDU, Nov 6: The CPN (Maoist Center) has postponed its demonstration in Kathmandu, which was announced for 8 November.

According to the general secretary of the party, Dev Gurung, due to the earthquakes in Jajarkot and Rukum West of Karnali, the demonstration centered in Kathmandu has been postponed for the time being. He said that although the program focused on Kathmandu has been postponed, the demonstrations in other municipalities have not been canceled or postponed.

“The public demonstration centered on Kathmandu has been postponed due to the situation created by the earthquake in Jajarkot and Rukum,” General Secretary Gurung said, “There has been a lot of damage to people's property in the earthquake. In such a time of grief, the party committee also has to work on relief and rescue work. At such a time, it has been decided not to hold the demonstrations in Kathmandu.” He said that the date of the program will be announced after further discussion.

The Maoist Center had issued a circular to the provincial committees last Tuesday and instructed them to hold public demonstrations at the local level including Kathmandu on November 8. The circular was signed by the party’s Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who is also the prime minister, and general secretary Dev Gurung.
