A group of three armed persons shot dead Khesari Prasad Yadav, 38, in Bishrampur area of the district at about 1:45 am, according to police. [break]
Yadav was a Maoist Bara District Committee member and also co-in charge of the party´s Young Communist League (YCL) Area Number 2 of the district. Yadav had sustained chest and stomach injuries. His body has been kept at Bara District Hospital, Kalaiya, for post mortem.
Earlier, four Maoist cadres, including two state committee members, were killed in Ganjabhawanipur area of the district on February 5, 2010.
Maoist cadres living in rural areas in Tarai have become increasingly insecure in recent days following repeated attacks from armed groups.
Meanwhile, the Maoists have denounced the murder and demanded action against the guilty and compensation to the kin of the deceased.
Issuing a press statement, Maoist Spokesperson Dina Nath Sharma said murder of Maoist cadres continues due to failure of the government to book the guilty.
The Maoists have asked the government to declare Yadav a national martyr and provide compensation accordingly. The party warned that the government would be responsible if the party and ordinary people were forced to adopt ´retaliatory strategy´ to safeguard life and property.
