Meanwhile, a high-ranking NEA official has slammed the leniency shown by the administration toward the lawmaker for the offence. "A commoner can even be jailed for the offence. But a CA member has been let off with a meager fine," the official fumed.
"The power supply, in such cases, is resumed only after the offender is made to pay the amount claimed as fine, but she has been fined only Rs 3,000 by the administration," the official added.
The CA member was caught just two days after the NEA declared to slap additional load-shedding of two hours on the whole village if anybody was found stealing electricity.
