Manakamana temple to be renovated

GORKHA, March 21: The works of renovation of the famous religious shrine of the country, Manakamana Temple have begun. Works were started soon after some timber arrived for the temple.



The shrine, which is visited by 1.5 million pilgrims each year from home and abroad was slightly inclined due to the earthquake of 1990 BS. It was in more risk after mouse dug soil from below. [break]



The government appropriated Rs. 10 million after complaints by people of less concern shown by government and locals and works started through the Temple Renovation Committee.



Gold worth Rs. 10 million has been bought and deposited at Rastriya Banijya Bank, said Chairman of the Manamakana Area Development Committee Dinesh Babu Joshi.



A renovation committee was formed after a report of its weak condition was made public last year by the Department of Archeology and the Temple Development Committee.



Eight million rupees was raised from devotees and donors in few months under the leadership of temple priest Insan Bahadur Thapa, the leader of the Fund Raising Committee and the renovation may take Rs. ten million to Rs. 15 million.
