TAPLEJUNG, Feb 28: The District Court of Taplejung has sentenced a person to 36 years of jail time. The court found Ram Karki guilty of raping a girl and murdering her afterward by pushing her off a cliff.
The hearing of the case conducted by the bench of District Judge Prakash Raut sentenced Karki to life imprisonment for murdering the minor and added another 11 years for rape. Karki will also have to pay Rs 300,000 in compensation to the victim’s family.
Karki, a resident of Phungling Municipality-10 has been convicted of raping Pushpa Twebung Limbu from Phaktanglung Rural Municipality-3 and murdering her afterward. According to police, Karki had pushed Limbu from a cliff on October 1.
For the past nine months, the police had described a different narrative of the incident. The victim's family had filed a complaint against Karki after finding the body of Limbu. Karki was arrested two days after he murdered Limbu. The court had remanded him into custody for trial since then.
