Chachan, who received two bullets to his stomach and right hand respectively, died at 9 pm Sunday during an immediate abdomen surgery.
Police quoted his wife as saying that the assailants had aimed at Chachan though he begged them not to open fire.
The assailants had not been arrested till late evening. SP Pushkar Karki, chief of Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu (MPRK), said that intense searches were being conducted to nab the assailants.
The shooting has taken place two weeks after a similar case at a private office at Teku, which also claimed the life of a person. The administration is under pressure following a series of such incidents in the capital.
Police sources said that the incident could have been perpetrated by an extortion racket as the victim is a trader. However, family sources informed the police that they were not aware of any threat to Chachan.
