Man held for 'human trafficking'

KATHMANDU, Nov 1: Police have arrested Bijay KC, 56, on the charge of human trafficking from Makawanpur district Monday. He was arrested from the branch office of Esther Benjamin Memorial Foundation (EBMF) at Kamal Danda.



KC was tracked by EBMF founder director Shailaja CM and her team at his residence in Naksauti, Kamarre in the district. EBMF is a child rights NGO. [break]



Saraswati Adhikari, 22, who was trafficked to an Indian circus at the age of 14 by KC and rescued this September by EBMF after a raid in the New Diamond circus in Assam, India has testified against him.



The EBMF team was trying to track KC since the rescue in September.



“We´ve lodged the case at the District Police Office and they detained KC today,” CM said.



Three limbuwan cadres nabbed



DHARAN:
Police on Monday nabbed three Federal Limbuwan State Council´s cadres from the Council´s office, for disrupting the ongoing collection of voter identity lists.



The nabbed cadres are Council´s Chairman Damber Khajum of Sunsari Chapter, secretary Bhim Ighor and municipal secretary Amit Thebe.[break]



Council had seized the documents of voter identity list on Sunday from Dharan, claiming Election Commission continuing the process in against the agreement.



Council has condemned the arrest of their cadres and has warned to call the indefinite strike from 1 pm if the detained cadres are not released soon.


Firecrackers injure child



DADELDHURA: A four-year-old child sustained injury to both of his eyes Monday while setting off firecrackers.



Both eyes of Dhiraj Tirwa of Dasharath Chand Municipality-1 in Baitadi, were burnt by flames emanating from firecrackers. He also received burn injuries in body parts.



He was rushed to the District Hospital in Baitadi but the doctors sent him home after minor treatment. The boy is unable to open his eyes. Doctors say he may lose his eyesight.



Boy escapes police custody



LAHAN: A boy accused of stealing belongings of passengers of night buses that ply on the East-West Highway, ran away from police custody Monday. Santosh Sada, a resident of Bastipur-9 in Siraha, was kept in the premises of Area Police Office, Lahan as the prison was overcrowded.



According to Sub Inspector Govinda Thapa, Sada was missing since morning. Locals accused police of helping Sada flee. However, Thapa said that Sada managed to flee due to the carelessness of two police personnel, Sanjay Bhusal and Raman Sah. They were on duty when Sada fled.
