KATHMANDU, Sept 9: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police on Tuesday arrested a mastermind for his alleged involvement in kidnapping a teenage girl with an intention to sacrifice her to appease the gods in order to cure his ailing mother.

The arrested has been identified as 37-year-old Bhoj Bahadur Thapa of Byas Municipality- 6 of Tanahun district. According to CIB Director DIG Nawaraj Silwal, Thapa had planned to kidnap the girl and sacrifice her as per the instruction of a shaman.
“A group of eight persons including Thapa then kidnapped the girl after they were told by a shaman that Thapa’s mother would become well miraculously and all those involved in kidnapping would be very rich,” DIG Silwal said.
The group managed to kidnap the girl from Sanobharyang of Kathmandu by luring her with some opportunities. The girl was kept hostage in a house based in Nagarjun area. The victim girl, who was kidnapped on July 29 last year, managed to escape from the clutches of the kidnappers after 18 days.
The girl decided to escape from the house after suspecting their activities upon hearing their conversation they covertly carried out. She then lodged a complaint against Thapa and his accomplices.
A CIB team arrested Thapa from Lakeside of Pokhara on Tuesday. He was presented before the Kathmandu District Court on Thursday and was then sent to Central Jail for further investigations.
Other involved in the case including shaman Kanu Pahari as well as Omkar Shah, Yam Bahadur Rokka, Chhatra Bahadur Rai, Hari Bahadur Pun Magar, Udim Bahadur Pun, Bhim Bahadur Bhujel were arrested last year and have been serving terms in central jail, according to the police.
