Maize crop damaged by heavy winds

DARCHULA, July 30: Maize crop grown in various parts of the district has been damaged after it was lashed by heavy winds here since the past three days.



Majority of the maize crop in the district has been damaged, Ram Singh Dhami of Dungari, Khalang-7 said. [break]



Sheri, Khari, Latinath, Tapoban, Malikarjun, Hunainath, Shankerpur, Bhagwati, Gywani, Boharigaon, Sarmauli, Rithachupata VDCs were hit by the heavy blowing winds since July 27.



The District Agriculture Office has also confirmed the damage caused to the maize crop in the district.



Maize cultivated by the farmers in around 650 hectares of land has been brought to ground, Crop Development Officer, Bishnu Adhikari said.



As immediate relief the Office shall provide vegetable seeds to the affected famers while a request for compensation has been made to the Central Office, he added.
