BAITADI, July 7: The heavy rainfall and storm have severely damaged maize crops in various places in Baitadi district.
Farmers complained that the maize crop has been already badly affected by the snail. According to local Ram Bahadur Mahara, rains and strong winds have caused further damage to maize crops in different places of Suryana Rural Municipality.
Farmers are worried that they will be forced to suffer from famine after the rain and winds destroyed the maize crop.
Rain and storm damage maize crop in Baitadi
Earlier, maize crop was also damaged in different places of Purchaudi Municipality of the district. The production of maize, which is the main food crop in the district, is estimated to decline due to the damage.
According to the data from the Agriculture Knowledge Center, the production of maize is declining every year due to various reasons.
Even though Baitadi is a maize zone area, the maize crop has been damaged due to various reasons. Narendra Bahadur Chand, Agriculture Extension Officer at Baitadi Agriculture Knowledge Center, said that army-insect, various wild animals and disasters have been damaging the maize crop in recent years.
Maize is being cultivated in 14,500 hectares of land in Baitadi district alone.
