Currently, Nepali is the sole official language of the province. The new bill seeks to include Maithili, Bhojpuri, Bajjika, Hindi and English as the official working languages in addition to Nepali in government offices, public institutions, and other government bodies throughout the province. Furthermore, the provincial government will have the ability to publish the provincial gazette in these languages in addition to Nepali, which is written in the Devanagari script.

In Sub-section (b) of Section 2 of the bill, the term ‘official working language’ is mentioned as 'Maithili, Bhojpuri, Bajjika, Hindi and English used in written or oral form in government offices of Madhesh Province'.
