IIam, Nov 25: CPN-UML candidate Mahesh Basnet has maintained his lead against CPN (Unified Socialist) candidate and former Prime Minister Jhalnath Khanal in Ilam-1. Basnet maintained a lead of 1,546 votes after the counting of votes that was halted on Wednesday night resumed this morning.
Basnet has got 11,394 votes while Khanal has got 9,848 votes so far. So far, when 26,394 votes have been counted, 25,199 votes have been approved and 1195 votes have been invalidated. Only 59,136 votes were cast out of the total 109,535 voters in Constituency 1 for the House of Representatives.
Mourners cast their votes in IIam
The candidate of CPN (Unified Scoailist) has taken the lead in the Provincial Assembly 1 (A) of this constituency. She has secured a lead of 583 votes against UML candidate Shobha Parajuli. Limbu has got 5,902 votes while Parajuli is trailing behind him with 5,319 votes.
UML has the lead in the vote counting of proportional votes for the House of Representatives. In the counting so far, UML has got 9,065 votes, while Nepali Congress has got 6,219 votes and CPN (Unified Socialist) has got 2,623 votes. So far, 23,675 votes have been counted under the proportional election category of the House of Representatives.
As many as 18,571 votes have been counted for the provincial assembly.
