“The party has decided to appoint four spokespersons, one each for television, radio, print media and online, respectively,” the party´s Joint General Secretary Arjun Upreti told Republica.
Mahato has already endorsed the idea at the party´s three-day central committee meeting that concluded in Janakpur on Monday. While incumbent spokesperson Santosh Kumar Mehta will remain in the post, three others will be appointed by Mahato shortly. Upreti argued that the party adopted the idea of appointing different spokespersons for different kind of media in line with international practice in recent years.[break]
According to him, the party is likely to appoint the leaders who recently joined the party as some of them were spokespersons in their former parties.
The party has managed to attract many central as well as local-level leaders from rival parties to the party recently. To accommodate the newcomers, Chairman Mahato has expanded the party´s central committee to 111-member jumbo body and decided to appoint 13 vice-presidents. The size of the central committee endorsed by the party´s general convention held in April was 81-member.
“Of the 13 vice-presidents, three will be nominated as senior vice-presidents while 10 will be vice-presidents,” said General Secretary Manish Suman.
Similarly, the meeting decided to appoint four general secretaries, seven joint general secretaries, five secretaries, one treasurer and one joint-treasurer.
The meeting also decided to convene party gatherings for 10 days in each constituency the party is contesting elections, from September 6.
“We will nominate party candidates for the coming elections from the same gatherings,” said Suman.
