It is one of the famous and sacred centers for the Hindu pilgrims and the Mahashivaratri is observed in a grand manner on the same day every year.
The Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) has managed three routes --- Gaushala-Bankali route, Chabahil-Mitrapark route, Siphal-Jayabageshwori route to enter the temple premises keeping in view of visitors´ facility.
According to the PADT Director Bharat Marasini, a large number of police and volunteers have been deployed for the security of the devotees who have arrived here and the temple would remain open throughout the day and night, today.
He added that around a million to 1.2 million visitors are expected to observe the festival at Pashupatinath temple on Sunday.
During the festival, flower petals will be dropped in the temple premises from the Nepal Army helicopters in the afternoon.
Different government and non-government organizations have set up health camps and free-food service around the temple premises.
Similarly, in Dhaulagiri zone, a large number of people are thronging in Shiva temples and shrines since early morning.
The devotees have gathered in Muktinath Dham in Mustang district, Galeshwor Mahadev at Myagdi district, Gaurishankar temple in Baglung district, and Gupteshwor Mahadev in Parbat.
The devotees take holy dips in the sacred rivers and ponds, observe fasting, make bonfire, take Prasad, and sing Shiva hymns.
The Mahashivaratri festival is being observed in other parts of the country including Siddheshwor temple, Chutrabesi Arghakhanchi, Pindeshwor Shiva temple at Bijayapurgadhi, Dharan of Sunsari district, Haleshi Shiva temple in Khotang district, Shankaracharya shrine in Khudunabari, Jhapa district, and different five Shiva temples in Udayapur district headquarters, Gaighat.
Member of Sanatana Dharma Sewa Samiti, Gaighat, Kedar Dahal informed that around 50,000 people from and around Triyuga Municipality are expected to observe the festival here in Udayapur.
